Mr Amresh Singh

Amresh Singh - Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon

About me

I completed my pre-clinical and clinical training at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, graduating in 2006. Following basic surgical training, I completed my specialist training on the Cambridge Orthopaedic rotation, achieving my fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons of England during this period. I also completed an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics from Warwick University, and I undertook a Fellowship in Revision Hip Surgery at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, one of the highest volume fellowships of its type in the country. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and was delighted to return as a consultant to this highly sought-after department.

I was first appointed as a Consultant at Peterborough City Hospital in 2017 where I spent four successful years with excellent colleagues. During my time there, the hospital was awarded the ‘Training Hospital of the Year’ for orthopaedics and I was awarded the Murray Mathewson Prize in 2020 as the East of England Orthopaedic Regional Trainer of the Year. In 2021, I relocated my consultant practice to Norfolk and Norwich where I have further developed my expertise and experience in this high-volume unit.

I am a specialist in patients requiring first time (primary) total hip replacements and complex hip replacement surgeries for bone loss or previous issues. At the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital site, I further specialise in revision hip surgery where a failing artificial joint is removed and the entire joint reconstructed. In addition to general trauma as part of the on-call service, I also manage fractures and trauma associated with hip replacements and their fixation and/or revision.

In my busy NHS practice, I perform three times more primary and revision hip replacement surgeries than the average surgeon nationally. My outcomes are recorded by the National Joint Registry and are all within expected limits including patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

I remain a dedicated trainer, having served as an educational supervisor to numerous trainees since beginning my consultant career. I have taught on multiple local and national courses.

In my capacity as the Governance Lead for the Norfolk and Norwich Orthopaedic Department, I am responsible for ensuring that the systems and processes within our department are aligned with the principles of delivering safe, effective, and high-quality patient care, while also prioritising risk management.
